Ar ais!

Tá mo ríomhaire ag obair arís!! Tá súil agam go mbeidh mé ábalta a phostáil anseo go minic.

Bionn mé gnóthach le déanaí. D'fhill mé ón Éire an seachtain seo caite, ach ní chuaigh mé abhaile... Ghluais mé go cathair nua, i gCalifornia. Beidh mé ag tósú mo Ph.D. anseo, i litríocht, an seachtain seo chugainn. Tá mé gnóthach ag léamh cúpla leabhair faoi teoiric liteartha, ag ullmhaithe ceachtanna agus siollabais (beidh mé i mo TA), agus ag lorg tithíocht. Fuair mé óstaocht le mhí Meán Fómhair, ach tá tithíocht cónaitheach uaim, agus tá sé deacair a fháil anseo. Beidh sé ceart go leor, is dócha, agus tá mé ag dul beagan as mo mheabhair ag lorg!

Hmm, cad eile atá nua liom... Ó, tá rothar nua agam! Ní raibh róthar agam le thart cúig déag bhliain ó shin (ba pháiste mé). Is rothar gorm é. Thit mé inné nuair a bhí mé cycle ag ciogal, ach anois tá mé ceart go leor.

OK, sin é inniu. Caithfidh mé léamh arís. Slan anois...

As Béarla:

My computer is working again!! I hope that I will be able to post here often.

I am very busy lately. I returned from Ireland last week, but I didn't go home... I moved to a new city, in California. I'll be starting my Ph.D. here, in literature, next week. I'm busy reading a few literary theory books, preparing lessons and syllabi (I will be a TA), and looking for housing. I found lodging for September, but I need permanent housing, and it's hard to find here. It will be ok, I'm sure, but I'm going a little bit out of my mind looking.

Hmm, what else is new with me... Oh, I have a new bicycle! I haven't had a bicycle for about fifteen years (I was a child). It's a blue bike. I fell yesterday while I was cycling, but now I'm fine.

OK, that's it today. I have to read again. Bye for now...

A chairde,

Ta bron orm: nior scriobh me aon rud anseo le tamaill. Ta mo riomhaire briste. Nil se ag obair ar chor ar bith. Ta me ag usaid riomhaire le mo chara faoi lathair, ach nil Easy Reader aige (therefore, ni feidir liom mo "spelling" a "check", agus nil focloir agam ach oiread). So ta bron orm faoi an "spelling" agus an "lack of" fadai.

Bim an-ghnothach. Bhi me ar cuairt go Gaillimh agus Maigh Eo. Chonaic me na na hAillte an Mhothair, Aillwee Cave, the North Atlantic Drive, Croagh Patrick...ta an tuath an-alainn. Freisin chaith me tri la sa Ghearmain, i Munich. Bhain me an-sult as.

Silim nach mbeidh me ag scriobh aris le tamaill eile...ni feidir liom mo riomhaire a dheisiu in Eirinn, agus ta lan "frustration" agam ag scriobh gan m'fhocloir (agus gan fadai). Beidh me ag glauiseacht tar eis mo cuairt anseo in Eirinn... Níl a fhios agam nuair a bheidhábalta mo riomhaire a dheisiú.

Tog go bog e...

Friends,

I'm sorry: I did not write anything here in a while. My computer is broken. It's not working at all. I'm using my friend's computer right now, but he doesn't have Easy Reader (therefore, I can't check my spelling, and I don't have a dictionary, either). So I'm sorry about the spelling and the lack of fadas.

I've been very busy. I went on a trip to Galway and Mayho. I saw the Cliffs of Moher, Ailwee Cave, the North Atlantic Drive, Croagh Patrick...the countryside is very beautiful. Also I spent three days in Germany, in Munich. I really enjoyed it.
I think that I won't be writing again for another long while... I can't fix my computer in Ireland, and I'm extremely frustrated writing without my dictionary (and without fadas). I'll be moving after my trip here in Ireland...I don't know when I'll be able to fix my computer.

Take it easy...

Dia dhaoibh arís. Conas atá sibh?

Aréir, d'fhéach mé ar cluiche eile ar an teilifís: iománaíocht. Is spórt gaelach í, agus tá sé go hiontach--an-tapúil agus corraitheach. Bhí bua ag Corcaigh. Bhí Corcaigh ar fheabhas, ach Port Láirge bocht!

Tar éis an cluiche, chuaigh mé go dtí an lár. Bhí sé mall, agus bhí na siopaí dúnta, ach shiúil mé timpeall an lár le cúpla uair. D'ith mé mo dhinnéar (ceapaire ag "Nude", bialann gleoite ar Sráid Suffolk) agus shiúil mé le uair eile. Is maith liom a bheith ag siúl sa lár, ag féachaint ar na hárais agus ag éisteacht le m'iPod.

Inniu, íosfaidh mo dhinnéar ag an teacht le na tuismitheoirí le mo bhuachaill. Prátaí, is dócha...is fuath liom prátaí, ach íosfaidh mé iad! Ansin, rachaidh mé go dtí an teach le cara le mo buachaill. Rachaidh muid go dtí cluiche sacar anocht freisin.

Agus tá corraí agam: amárach, rachaidh mé go dtí Gaillimh. Caithfidh mé oíche amhain ansin, agus ansin rachaidh mé go Maigh Eo le dhá lá. Thaistil mé mór in Éirinn, ach níor fhán mé i Maigh Eo riamh. Feicfidh mé na hAillte an Mhothair freisin. Ní scríobhfaidh mé arís go dtí mé ar ais i mBÁC, is dócha.

Tógaigí go bóg é!

As Béarla:
Hello again. How are you all?

Yesterday, I watched another game on television: hurling. It's an Irish sport, and it's wonderful--very quick and exciting. Cork won. Cork were wonderful, but poor Waterford!

After the game, I went to city center. It was late, and the shops were closed, but I walked around the city center for a few hours. I ate my dinner (a sandwich at "Nude", a cute restaurant on Suffolk Street) and I walked for another hour. I like to walk in the city, looking at the buildings and listening to my iPod.

Today, I will eat dinner at my boyfriend's parents house. Potatoes, probably...I hate potatoes, but I will eat them! Then, I will go to my boyfriend's friend's house. We will go to a soccer game tonight also.

And I'm excited: tomorrow, I will go to Galway. I will spend one night there, and then I will go to Mayo for two days. I've travelled a lot in Ireland, but I've never stayed in Mayo before. I will also see the Cliffs of Moher. I won't write again until I'm back in Dublin, probably.

Take it easy!

Ag tosú mo bhlog

Dia dhaoibh! Tá fáilte romhaibh anseo. Tá mé ag scríobh an blog seo mar ba mhaith liom mo chuid Ghaeilge a bhis. Ceartaígí m'iomraill, le bhur dtoil!

Tá mé i mBaile Átha Cliath. Is Meiriceánach mé, ach bhí mé i mo chónaí anseo i mBÁC le beagnach trí bliana. Ghluais mé ar ais go Meiriceá bliain go leith ó shin. Tá lán áthas orm go bhfuil mé ar ais i mBÁC; is aoibhinn liom an chathair seo, agus is féidir liom a bhuail le mo chairde anseo arís. Beidh mé anseo go ceann mí Lúnasa.

Tá tuirse orm inniu. Tá an aimsir te agus tais. Bhí mé san lár níos luaithe. D'ith mé iasc agus sceallóga. Bhuail mé le cara, agus d'itheamar uachtar reoite. Ansin, chuaigh mé abhaile ar an DART, agus d'fhéach mé ar dheireadh an chluiche peile idir Corcaigh agus Dún na nGall. Ó, agus d'fhéach mé ar "Spongebob Squarepants" as Gaeilge! Tá sé greannmhar, agus b'fhéidir liom an formhór a thuiscint.

Bhuel, sin é. Tá ocras orm, agus caithfidh mé mo dhinnéar a ullmhú. Tógaigí go bóg é!

as Béarla:
Hello! You're welcome here. I'm writing this blog because I want to improve my Irish. Correct my mistakes, please!

I am in Dublin. I'm an American, but I lived here in Dublin for almost three years. I moved back to America a year and a half ago. I'm very happy that I'm back in Dublin; I love this city, and I can meet with my friends here again. I will be here the entire month of August.

I'm tired today. The weather is hot and humid. I was in the city center earlier. I ate fish and chips. I met with a friend, and we ate ice cream. Then, I went home on the DART, and I watched the end of the Gaelic football game between Cork and Donegal. Oh, and I watched "Spongebob Squarepants" in Irish! It's funny, and I could understand most of it.

Well, that's it. I'm hungry, and I have to make my dinner. Take it easy!

NOTE: *Please* correct any errors you see here! There are a few grammatical constructions in there that I'm not really sure how to use (and I'm sure there are more that I thought were ok but are wrong). Cheers!
